(Council amalgamation will let us have a shorter name.. :)

Purpose:

To represent the interests and concerns of Townsville and Thuringowa cyclists to the City Councils, Main Roads and other appropriate bodies.

To promote cycling generally. The more cyclists we can get to use the roads, the more motorists will be aware of cyclists on the road and thus increase road safety for cyclists.

Ride of Silence - 2008

24th May 8.30AM start at Rockpool, the Strand.

What is the Ride of Silence?

I propose we do it on the same day as Sydney, Saturday 24th May 2008, but we start earlier say 8.30am? Start at the Strand (as most cyclists are there anyway).
I have tried to choose a short, beginner friendly route that does not involve traffic lights or major traffic crossings.

Route: 9.5km

Start Silence! Slow ride - max 20km/hr
Start at Strand Rockpool car park.
Along strand down to Casino.
From Casino back past Reef HQ and Museum.
Return to Strand over Wickham.
Along Strand to Rockpool.
Down Howitt, turn right into Rose.
Along Esplanade circling back to Howitt on Cook St.
End at Rockpool.
End Silence.
Coffee available at Rockpool, CBar, Julliette's, etc.

It is a bit shorter than the suggested 12km, so we could end at Strand Park to make it longer?
